4.11.4.4 M02: Program End, Cursor Returns to the End of the Program

M02 command should be placed at the end of the program to indicate that the program ends here. This command stops the program running and spindle rotating (M05), and turns off the coolant (M09). Notice that M02 command will not make the cursor return to the start of the program; the cursor stays at the end of the program instead.
