3.6.1 How to Diagnose the Spindle Encoder Function
Below explain the testing method to exam whether the spindle encoder is showing the three commonly seen problems:
- Incorrect spindle parameters settings in controller system.
- Interference with the spindle encoder feedback signal.
- Unfastened mechanical connection of spindle encoder and spindle.
1. Check the resolution setting of spindle encoder:
(1) |
From the machine parameter pop-up menu, select "Spindle→Main Spindle" to open "Main Spindle" dialog box. |
(2) |
Check if the value set in Encoder text box is the same as the real encoder resolution value. The default value of Encoder text box is 1024 (quadruple-frequency: 4096). |
(3) |
Press ALT+F8 to switch the right side of the controller screen from state window to the system diagnosis page. |
(4) |
Manually and slowly rotate the spindle (please be careful for your safety) until the SEN value in diagnosis page shows 0000 (hexadecimal) and mark the position on the spindle. |
(5) |
Manually and slowly rotate the spindle again by 360 degrees and see if the SEN value remains 1000 or F000. If not, it means that the real spindle encoder value is inconsistent with the value set in controller machine parameter. |
2. |
Exam whether main spindle encoder return signal is been infected and whether encoder and main spindle within system is connection is loose or not connected correctly. |
(1) |
Manually and slowly rotate the spindle to the marked position and check if the last three digits of SEN value are 000. |
(2) |
Execute M3 S10000 (spindle rotate) and M4 S10000 (spindle reverse) respectively for about 1 minute and then stop. |
(3) |
Manually and slowly rotate the spindle to the marked position and check if the last three digits of SEN value are 000. If not, it means that the spindle encoder feedback signal is interfered or the mechanical connection of spindle encoder and spindle is unfastened. |
The above diagnostic procedure has to be retested after the machine is restarted.
